Episode 51: personalizing time management strategies with jill wright

Time management isn’t one-size-fits-all. In this episode, host Hannah Morgan chats with Jill Wright, time management coach and mom of four, about how to create systems that truly work for your season of life. Jill shares her four time management archetypes and explains how knowing your style can help you align your energy, reduce burnout, and reclaim your time without guilt.

Key Takeaways

  • Time management must be personalized — what worked in one season of life may not work in another.

  • Four archetypes reveal patterns — knowing whether you’re a Cooperative Visionary, Passionate Adventurer, Relationship Builder, or Energized Achiever helps you choose strategies that fit your natural tendencies.

  • Small, consistent shifts add up — starting with just a few aligned tools creates habits and frees mental space for bigger changes.

Quotes

  • “Seasons change, and our time management needs to change too.”

  • “It’s not about trying all 200 productivity hacks—it’s about finding the three that actually move the needle for you.”

  • “When your time management aligns with your personality, it doesn’t feel like work. It feels like freedom.”

On today’s episode, I’m thrilled to be joined by Jill Wright — a time management coach and mom of four who helps women personalize their approach to managing time in different seasons of life. We’ll talk about why traditional productivity hacks often fall short, the four time management archetypes Jill has identified, and how aligning strategies with your personality and circumstances can reduce burnout and create more balance.

    [01:30] Hannah Morgan:
Jill, I’m so excited to have you on the show today. Let’s start by hearing a little bit about who you are and what you do.

    [01:37] Jill Wright:
Thank you for having me. This is so fun. My name is Jill Wright, and I’m first and foremost a mom of four. One of my kids is autistic, and they range from ages 15 to 5. My work really stems from my experience as a mother trying to do it all.

I specialize in time management—that’s the bulk of my one-to-one work—but I also love helping moms adapt time strategies to their real-life circumstances. For me, time management isn’t just about productivity; it’s holistic. It includes rest, self-care, goals, parenting—all the puzzle pieces of life.

    [02:28] Hannah Morgan:
Excellent. We’re so excited to have you here. Today we’re talking about personalizing time management and some of the tools you’ve developed around that.

    [02:37] Jill Wright:
Yes. I think this is the missing link when we talk about time management. We read books, watch YouTube videos, hear all the tips—but often they don’t feel doable in our current season of life. Clients tell me, “That used to work, but it doesn’t anymore,” or “I tried it and failed, so something must be wrong with me.” Seasons change, and so should our time management.

That’s why I created a short quiz—seven questions, about two minutes—that gives you a personalized archetype of your time management style. There are four archetypes I’ve developed from my years of coaching. Once you know yours, I can give you three or four tailored tools that actually work for your personality, your support system, and your life circumstances.

When you try a few aligned tools, they start to feel natural. They become habits, and suddenly you have the mental space to add more. Instead of feeling like work, it feels like you’ve finally unlocked the key.

    [03:45] Hannah Morgan:
I love that. Tell us about the four archetypes.

    [03:50] Jill Wright:
The first is the Cooperative Visionary. This person is a team player who values everyone’s input and struggles to make decisions. They often get stuck in research mode instead of taking action. For them, momentum-building strategies and accountability are key.

The second is the Passionate Adventurer. Lovingly, I call them “squirrel.” They’re multi-passionate, easily distracted, and often have ADHD tendencies. Sitting down for long, focused work is hard, so tools like the Pomodoro method—short sprints with built-in breaks—work much better for them.

    [04:45] Jill Wright:
The third archetype is the Relationship Builder. These are the “yes” moms. They give their power away all day long, reacting to other people’s needs. They’ll drop everything to respond to an email or help someone else, but they struggle to make time for themselves. For this group, the work is largely mindset-based—creating boundaries, dedicating blocks of time to be proactive rather than purely reactive.

And finally, the Energized Achiever. This person loves their work and often struggles to unplug. They’ll answer emails while watching a movie with their kids or take their laptop on vacation. They’re rarely present in one place at a time, and guilt often comes with that. Their work is about building transition rituals, so they can fully be “at work” when working and “at home” when with family.

    [06:05] Hannah Morgan:
I love how you describe these types. It really helps people organize the way they see their own tendencies and gives them customized tools that won’t feel overwhelming.

    [06:15] Jill Wright:
Exactly. With the right archetype and tailored tools, time management becomes empowering instead of defeating. It’s about alignment, not force.

    [06:35] Hannah Morgan:
Thank you so much, Jill. I hope listeners will check out your quiz and resources so they can learn what works best for them and optimize their own time.

    [06:45] Jill Wright:
Thank you, Hannah. This was wonderful.
